Police chaplains of the Canadian Police Chaplain Association offer our prayers and deepest condolences to the family of OPP Sgt. Brandon Malcolm, his peers, friends and all those who knew Brandon and are grieving this terrible loss.
Early Monday evening, April 27, 2026, Brandon was involved in a MVC while on patrol on Highway 401 in Cobourg. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The OPP continue to investigate his death that has left many thousands of OPP police and civilian staff heartbroken. Police communities across Canada are also mourning the loss of a brother in law enforcement.
Brandon had served as an Auxiliary Member of TPS and the Canadian Armed Forces prior to joining the OPP in 2020. Sgt. Malcolm was a member of OPP's Northumberland detachment in the OPP's Central Region. Brandon's service to the Ontario communities is a gift that will not be forgotten and will be treasured.
Our prayers are also with police chaplains, peer to peer support persons, employee wellness team members, police administrators, grief counsellors, victim services, psychologists, psychiatrists and all those dedicated to walking alongside those who are hurting from the tragic loss of Brandon Malcolm.
Thank you, Brandon, for your years of service and commitment to protect the residents of Ontario through the TPS, CAF, and the OPP. Your sacrifice will be remembered amongst law enforcement officers, civilians and police chaplains across Canada.
Deepest sympathies from the CPCA Executive & National Leadership Team and all the members of the CPCA.
Rev. Bruce Ewanyshyn
