CPCA Webinar Recap

"Navigate Burnout & Compassion Fatigue: Learn to RESET for Resilience"
"Navigate Burnout & Compassion Fatigue: Learn to RESET for Resilience"

Close to 30 police chaplains and guests gathered today on Zoom to engage in an interactive presentation on learning how to, "Navigate Burnout & Compassion Fatigue: Learn to RESET for Resilience." International speaker and presenter Lisa Boehm facilitated two plus hours sharing information and practical strategies while incorporating small group exercises in chat rooms. The strategies she presented are innovative but not complex, and with some practice will become simple and effective tools to assist us in resetting after experiencing primary or secondary trauma.

Lisa's presentation had nuggets for everyone whether you have served in chaplaincy for less than a year, or for decades. For those of us who have lived in the trenches for many years, small resets in certain areas will lead to meaningful long-term change. The key to these "baby step resets" is consistency and awareness, coupled with action. For those just starting to serve in chaplaincy, ministry or law enforcement, the information Lisa shared can serve as checkpoints along the way to prevent burnout and compassion fatigue.

Lisa met all the key objectives during her presentation including recognition of the signs and symptoms of burnout and compassion fatigue; how to normalize the emotional toll of caring for others; learning the RESET method to rebuild energy, focus, and purpose; and being equipped with simple tools that create meaningful long-term change.

All our participants have received Lisa's slide presentation, and those who registered but were unable to attend have received the video recording. From the emails and phone conversations I've had since the webinar, I know that many of us were impacted by Lisa's presentation, and have some measure of "homework" to complete to ensure the strategies Lisa shared create meaningful long-term change.

I'm thankful that Lisa reached out to me several months ago through LinkedIn. If you are in leadership of others in high-compassion roles, consider connecting with Lisa Boehm on LinkedIn. As she did for the CPCA, she will custom tailor her presentation for your organization.

On behalf of the members of the CPCA, thank you Lisa for hitting the mark in providing us with actionable strategies to prevent burnout, foster emotional resilience, and protect mental health in high-compassion roles such as chaplaincy, ministry, and law enforcement.

Also, thank you CPCA Members and guests who registered and invested your time towards this invaluable training. Our next training event is our in-person week-long ATS gathering in Vancouver from October 20 - 24.
