There are two new faces adorning our CPCA website Leadership Team page; our newly elected Second Vice President Jim Raddatz, and our newly appointed CPCA-SK Regional Director Michael Zorn.

If you were unable to attend our AGM in Vancouver on October 23rd, you may not be aware of the election of James Raddatz as our new 2nd Vice President Executive Officer. The following will provide our members with some insight regarding Chaplain Jim:
"Jim is a retired ordained minister; a role held in his denomination for over forty-nine years. In his capacity as a minister, he served in a variety of responsibilities in churches, as an evangelist nationally and internationally, and as an adjunct professor at Vanguard College in Edmonton. He has served as the lead pastor of multiple staff churches in British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario. While pastoring he also provided oversight as a divisional pastor to 23 churches in the Toronto area and served as the Evangelism, Spiritual Life Director for two of his denomination’s districts. Jim has been actively involved in Interdenominational Ministerial Committees across the country."
"While pastoring in Northern BC, Jim was asked by Jim Turner, the RCMP Divisional Lead Chaplain for the Province of British Columbia at the time, to become the chaplain of the Smithers Detachment. This began a rewarding experience in serving those who serve us. As of 2025, Jim has been serving the Langley Detachment of the RCMP. This has proven to be a positive engagement with members and civilians who serve in the Langley City and Township.
Listening, mentoring, and the power of presence are skill sets Jim uses in his interactions with police members. Jim firmly believes you will gain respect, and opportunities to engage with police members, through authenticity and an approachable demeanor."

During the ATS in Vancouver, Chaplain Michael Zorn approached me to discuss the role of a CPCA Regional Director. Mike has been quite engaged with the CPCA since becoming a member a few years ago. He has a vision to expand chaplaincy in Saskatchewan and I believe he has the personality and zeal to accomplish the task. Mike made a very positive impression upon myself and the other members present at the ATS who are on our national leadership team. I officially appointed Mike as CPCA-SK Regional Director during our Zoom leadership team meeting on Nov 19th. Thank you Mike for your willingness to connect with police chaplains across SK and to be a forerunner for chaplaincy growth in SK. The following will provide our members with some insight regarding Chaplain Mike:
"My name is Mike Zorn. I am married to a wonderful woman, BreAnn, and have a nine-year-old son, Benjamin. I have always had a pastoral heart, which has led to many roles within the church such as Sunday School, men’s, youth, college & career, and camp ministries. I served with Youth For Christ as a drop-in centre director in Kipling SK for eight years. I am ordained with ACOP (Apostolic Church of Pentecost Canada) and have served as a pastor in Grenfell from 2018 until July of 2024."
"I have recognized the weight that our first responders carry and have had a heart to be a support to them for quite some time. I have seen first hand the effects my wife has carried as a Paramedic and now a Coroner with the SK Coroners Service. My wife's father is a retired RCMP member and she has three cousins who are currently serving with the RCMP. It was with a desire to support those who serve in those capacities, that I pursued becoming a Chaplain, and now serve three local RCMP detachments located in Broadview, Moosomin, and Indian Head Sask."
"I believe in the value of chaplaincy and know first hand the value of the CPCA in both training and moral support for those serving as chaplains. I can honestly say I would have given up already if it wasn't for the CPCA! I have a desire to also support those who are serving as chaplains and feel alone, ineffectual and ill equipped to serve in that role. I have a desire to grow chaplaincy in SK because I believe there is a definite need!"

CONGRATULATIONS to our newly elected First Vice President Curtis Hinds. Curtis served the previous two years as our Second Vice President. Curtis replaces our previous faithful 1st VP Robert Parmenter who decided not to run for re-election. Thank you Robert for your years of service.
Here is a BIO from Chaplain Curtis:
"Curtis Hinds is an ordained and licenced minister in the province of Ontario. He has travelled to over twenty-four different countries around the world speaking in training conferences and seminars since 1996."
"Since 2008, Curtis has proudly served as Coordinator of Chaplaincy and Spiritual Supports for Peel Regional Police and has been hired to serve Peel Regional Police in a fulltime capacity."
"As the Coordinator of Chaplaincy Services and Spiritual Supports, I have the unique and much needed role of supporting all our members in all aspects of their lives. Many of our members would prefer to identify as 'Spiritual' rather than 'religious'. This allows for support, and guidance that connects with the heart of our members."
"My availability crosses many areas of our organization. From 'Ride-Alongs & Divisional Visits', to supporting our members and their loved ones in times of difficulty and stress and being there to just 'talk' about life."
"I consider myself to have a very simple and genuine style of connecting with people of all different cultures, religions, and ethnicities. I like to see my role among other things as one who...'Loiters with intent'. My intent is simply to be there for our members..."
Quote - "I am only here to Help"
"He carries a wealth of training and experience in helping people."
"Curtis has been married to Debbie for 35 years and has lived in the Region of Peel and has lived in the Meadowvale community of Mississauga for 24 years and they have 3 children, Richard, Kara, Deelan, and one granddaughter Gwendolyn."

To close off this Blog release, I would like to extend words of gratitude to all our CPCA members who attended the AGM in Vancouver. As a result of the unanimous vote to approve the CPCA Constitution revision, my nomination to serve a third two-year term was validated.
I'm looking forward to working alongside this amazing leadership team for 2025 - 2027. With recordings of three presentations during the 2025 ATS, plans are underway to create three intermediate online courses. Webinars will continue through the next two years. Thanks to Toronto PS Sgt. Ravi Virdi and his team (some of whom attended the 2025 ATS), there is a verbal commitment from TPS to host our 2027 national training seminar. The CPCA continues to grow in membership and resources as we strive to serve those who serve with excellence. We are Stronger Together, and Better Together, thanks to our embrace of police chaplains from different faith groups representing various police agencies. Our membership is rich with chaplains who are eager to share their knowledge and expertise. Thank you for your membership with the CPCA and for another two-year opportunity to serve you.
Warmest regards,
Bruce Ewanyshyn
CPCA President
ICPC Director of Region 1
