Our CPCA member and TPS Chaplain Wendell Gibbs continues to organize and inspire persons from all faiths to come together to walk in peace while standing against violence in Toronto. On Sept 18th, Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw and officers joined faith leaders and community members in a prayer walk in the Lawrence Heights neighbourhood. Across all TPS Divisions, police officers and faith leaders joined as one believing in the power of prayer to bring peace to all neighbourhoods in TO.
TPS Chief Myron Demkiw provided this quote to the public; "“When we reflect on what is happening in our communities, there is something about faith,” he said. “While we pray differently, we are all united in our faith. No matter how we worship, we are committed to ensuring that there is an eradication of gun violence in our communities, particularly in this one that continues to mourn the loss of lives and recover and heal from the harm that guns have caused.”

TPS Chaplain Wendell Gibbs led the walk in 32 Division and provided this statement; “By doing this, we want to show we are seeking a more peaceful and harmonious community against the angst of violence and crime.” For full details, check out this link to the TPS Chief's webpage https://www.tps.ca/media-centre/stories/walking-in-peace-standing-against-violence/

What Wendell and the faith leaders are doing in Toronto is inspirational to all police chaplains who serve communities across Canada. On behalf of the CPCA National Leadership Team, thank you Wendell and Prayer Walk organizers for continuing to motivate and inspire us through your unified expressions of celebrations of faith across all faith backgrounds. Prayer changes everything!
Warmest regards,
Rev. Bruce Ewanyshyn
