About the Event
KAGENCE (as a verb). An individual's ability to control one's own behaviours and manage their reactions to circumstances (vicarious and direct traumas, current - past - or present), beyond their control even if their actions are limited by someone/something else and or inner turmoils.Â
Leo Petrilli served in law enforcement for over 36 years while employed as a Canada Border Services Officer & K9 Officer; throughout the majority of this time, he was entrenched in alcoholism and the consumption of pills. MRI scans reveal his brain is forever altered by four decades of substance abuse. Leo has been free from substance abuse since 2011, and left law enforcement in 2018 to pursue his passion for assisting law enforcement officers and others who struggle with substance abuse and negative behaviours. He is a Train the Trainer for the First Responder Program with The Addictions Academy, a Personal Growth Coach with the Wellness Coach organization, Â a volunteer with Boots on the Ground in ON, and provides presentations at law enforcement gatherings across Canada and the US.Â
Police chaplains attending this webinar will gain insight from Leo, based upon his personal experiences, on how to recognize signs/symptoms of substance abuse masked within the police officers they serve. Leo will provide tools to assist chaplains to unpack a person's pain and release negative emotions that have been harbored for a long period of time. This will be beneficial whether you are serving as a chaplain or a faith leader. Police officers spend much of their tour of duty in a Survival State. Learn the advantage of assisting a person to move from a Survival State to an Executive State which allows for a person to be inquisitive, compassionate, while promoting learning and problem-solving. Learn of resources such as the "Copline" that are available to law enforcement officers struggling with mental health or addictions. Gain insight to what led to Leo's addictions and how he overcame them, thus propelling him on a path to inspire and encourage others towards recovery. Recovery is possible; it is not a myth.Â
