About the Event
As police services continue to expand their wellness services for members and their families, it presents an opportunity to revisit the traditional role of chaplaincy in policing and to rethink how spiritual care can become an integrated and essential part of a modern wellness approach. In this two hour webinar, the York Regional Police approach to wellness will be discussed, as well as how the role of chaplaincy has been expanded into a core pillar of the biopsychosocial spiritual approach to wellness YRP employs. Key considerations for spiritual care providers working with police services will be discussed, including marketing services, ethics, and ways to promote integration with other support services.
Our presenter Dr Kyle Handley CPsyc is the Senior Director of Wellness for the York Regional Police (YRP) and the chair of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police – Psychological Services Committee.  Dr. Handley has used his training in both clinical psychology and organizational development to support his work with police services, hospitals, universities, and private corporations in the United States and Canada.  Currently, Dr. Handley is responsible for the design and delivery of YRP’s comprehensive wellness strategy, management of the biopsychosocial spiritual wellness team, and providing general mental health education and support for YRP members and their families. Dr. Handley was also recently selected to serve on the Committee on Global Affairs through the International Association of Chiefs of Police – Police Psychological Services Section.
