Ethics and Police Chaplaincy

  • 5 Steps

About

This basic course in ethics explores some of the most salient areas of ethical behavior of which police chaplains need be aware. It is not intended to be exhaustive in content given the time constraints of this course or dive into an intensive discussion of ethics, but rather a fundamental course on ethical practice and conduct of the police chaplain. By the end of this unit, learners will: 1. Explain the CPCA Code of Conduct. Refer to CPCA New Member Handbook. See Appendix I 2. Describe the fundamentals of ethics and its implications/applications in relation to the role of the police chaplain. 3. Recognize the Chaplain’s service requirements for reporting matters up the chain of command. 4. Identify the 6 key areas of consideration regarding police chaplain ethics: honesty, integrity, humility, compassion, decency, and inclusivity. 5. Explain the grounds for dismissal of a chaplain within their own service, as well as those recommended by the CPCA in its progressive discipline policy. 6. Recall, in order, the recommended steps in the CPCA “progressive discipline” process. 7. Recite their Service’s Oath of Office.
